Mineral content

Definition

An indicator that describes the total concentration of dissolved minerals (e.g., calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, sulfate, chloride) in water, usually expressed in mg/L

Importance and Essence

Shows the chemical composition of water, which affects its suitability for household, industrial and health purposes
Too much mineral content can lead to taste changes, sediment formation, equipment damage, and too little can indicate water “softness” and possible micronutrient deficiencies

Where Used

In occupational health and safety assessments (drinking water quality)
In water control of industrial facilities (technological processes, boilers, pipelines)
In environmental studies (assessment of the condition of water bodies)
