environmental impact assessment (EIA)

Category
Design

Who is it applicable to?

1. EIA applies to planned economic activities that are included in the list specified in Annex 1 of the EIA Law (e.g., large-scale agricultural, industrial, energy, and infrastructure projects).
2. It also applies if it is determined during the screening that an EIA is necessary for a specific activity, or if the activity may significantly affect “Natura 2000” areas.
3. If the activity organizer plans to carry out an economic activity included in Annex 2 of the EIA Law and decides to immediately carry out an EIA without a screening procedure

When is it required?

Result obtained

1. EIA procedures are carried out – an EIA program or a notification of the start of the activity is prepared, and EIA documents are made public.
2. An EIA report is prepared, which assesses the potential impact of the activity on the environment and provides for preventive, compensatory, or restorative measures.
3. The responsible authority makes a decision on the environmental impact of the activity – whether it can be carried out, under what conditions, or whether additional measures are needed.
4. The decision is valid for 5 years (can be extended once), and the conditions set in the decision are binding on the operator.
