noise impact assessment

Category
Design

Who is it applicable to?

1. When planning a new or changing an existing activity that may cause increased noise levels (industry, transport, construction, infrastructure development, events, etc.).
2. When it is necessary to assess, according to legal acts or municipal requirements, whether the activity will violate the limit values of noise in residential or public buildings and their environment.
3. When it is necessary to justify the boundaries of the sanitary protection zone or obtain a permit for the activity.

When is it required?

1. Before starting a new activity or construction that may cause noise.
2. When changing an existing activity (increasing capacity, changing technology, installing new equipment or traffic flows).
3. When institutions or the public require an assessment of the noise impact.
4. When performing an environmental impact or public health assessment (EIA, HIA).

Result obtained

1. A noise impact assessment report is prepared, which:
1.1 Describes the planned and (or) existing activity and noise sources (equipment, transport, processes).
1.2 Calculations/modeling are performed according to current standards (e.g., HN 33:2011 “Noise limit values in residential and public buildings and their environment”).
1.3 Noise distribution maps, tables, and comparison with limit values are presented.
1.4 Measures to reduce noise are indicated if limit values are exceeded.
1.5 Conclusions on the compliance of the activity with legal acts and recommendations are presented.
2. The report is used:
2.1 To obtain a permit for activity or construction.
2.2 To justify the boundaries of the sanitary protection zone.
2.3 In EIA or HIA procedures.
2.4 In cases of disputes or public information.
