Assessment of the impact of chemical pollution

Category
Operation

Who is it applicable to?

When planning a new or changing an existing activity that may release chemicals into the environment (industry, manufacturing, storage, waste management, incineration, etc.).
When, according to legal or permit requirements, it is necessary to assess whether the concentrations of pollutants emitted into the environment during the performance of activities will exceed the limit values (LV) set by legal acts.
When preparing environmental impact assessment (EIA), public health impact assessment (PHIA) or pollution permit documents.

When is it required?

Before starting a new activity or construction where chemical substances are used or emitted.
When changing an existing activity (increasing capacity, changing technology, using new raw materials or substances).
When authorities or the public require an assessment of chemical pollution impact.
When preparing EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), PHSIA (Public Health Safety Impact Assessment) documents or carrying out IPPC or Pollution Permit acquisition procedures.

Result obtained

A chemical pollution impact assessment report is prepared, which includes:

Description of planned or existing activities, raw materials used, and products manufactured.
Identification and description of all possible sources of chemical pollution (equipment, processes, storage).
Calculations/modeling performed according to applicable legislation and methodologies (e.g., EMEP/EEA Air Pollutant Emission Inventory Guidebook).
Presentation of pollutant emission quantities, concentrations, and comparison with limit values.
Indication of measures to reduce pollution if limit values are exceeded.
Conclusions on compliance with legal requirements and recommendations.

The report is used for:

Obtaining permits for activities or construction.
EIA, SEA, or IPPC procedures.
Disputes or public information cases.
