Inventory of pollutants discharged with wastewater

Category
Operation

Who is it applicable to?

Inventory is mandatory for all natural and legal persons who discharge wastewater into the natural environment or wastewater collection systems (sewer networks), as well as for those planning such activities. This includes domestic, municipal, and industrial wastewater.

When is it required?

Purpose and Procedure of Inventory
Purpose of Inventory:

Determine how much and what types of hazardous, priority, or other regulated substances are discharged with wastewater.
Ensure that the composition and quantities of wastewater comply with legal requirements.

Inventory Execution:

Hazardous substances are inventoried based on their use and type of activity, as well as through measurement or calculation.
In municipal wastewater, hazardous substances are inventoried based on information provided by subscribers, type of activity, and/or measurement.
Inventory data is submitted to the Environmental Protection Department via the IS “AIVIKS”, by email, or by other means upon request.

What needs to be inventoried:

All wastewater containing hazardous, priority, or other regulated substances (according to Annexes 1 and 2 of the Wastewater Management Regulation).
Determine whether discharged substances do not exceed the maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) in the natural environment or sewer system.

Main Requirements

Wastewater composition and quantities must meet established limit values (MPC), which depend on wastewater type, discharge location, and sensitivity of receivers.
Permits: When discharging wastewater containing priority or hazardous substances, a permit specifying requirements for these substances is mandatory.
Measurements: The operator must measure wastewater composition and quantity, and industrial enterprises must additionally monitor parameters listed in Annex 4 according to activity type.
Reports: Inventory data must be submitted upon request by the Environmental Protection Department

Result obtained

DLK and lists of inventoried substances

Annex 2: Priority substances and other pollutants (e.g., benzene, lead, nickel, pesticides, phenols, petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, etc.).
Part B: Additionally regulated substances (e.g., chromium, copper, zinc, arsenic, fats, chlorine compounds, cyanides, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, etc.).
