Oxidation-reduction potential (Eh)

Definition

An indicator that describes the oxidizing and reducing properties of water or a solution, measured by the electrical potential (mV) relative to a standard electrode

Importance and Essence

Shows the chemical state of water, which affects its suitability for domestic, industrial and ecosystem stability
A large positive Eh indicates oxidizing conditions (favorable for aerobic processes), a negative Eh indicates reducing conditions (anaerobic processes)
This indicator determines the solubility of metals, the decomposition of organic matter and the course of microbiological processes

Where Used

In occupational health and safety assessments (drinking water quality)
In water control of industrial facilities (technological processes, corrosion prevention)
