Total chromium

Definition

An indicator that describes the total amount of chromium in water or wastewater, including all its forms (trivalent Cr(III) and hexavalent Cr(VI)). Most often expressed in mg/L

Importance and Essence

Shows the chemical quality of water and the possible presence of industrial pollution
Chromium is a heavy metal, the hexavalent form of which (Cr(VI)) is toxic, carcinogenic and poses a high risk to human health and the environment
Trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) is less dangerous, but high concentrations can also have a negative impact on ecosystems
The determination of total chromium makes it possible to assess the extent of pollution and control the impact of industry on the environment

Where Used

In occupational health and safety assessments (drinking water quality, sanitary risk)
In the control of industrial facilities (metal processing, leather tanning, galvanization processes)
In environmental studies (assessment of the condition of water bodies, wastewater analysis, heavy metal monitoring)
